Charlotte Psychotherapy and Consultation Group was founded on January 1, 1985.  Two of the founders, Rick Deitchman, Ph.D. and Randy Wall, Ph.D.  remain with the practice, and are joined by Rob Adelman, M.S.W., Jonathan Gould, Ph.D. ABPP, and Melinda Harper, Ph.D.  We have been in our current location since 1991.  

 

We offer a wide range of services to help individuals, couples and families address and resolve the variety of issues that can emerge in our lives. Our staff have a wide range of expertise across a variety of issues that are provided to the diverse populations we serve.  We provide help, guidance, and support to children, adolescents, young adults, adults and the elderly.  Our staff is diverse with respect to our approaches.  We share a common commitment to excellence and a strong desire to provide you with the best possible psychotherapeutic and forensic psychological services.  We also provide consulting and training services to businesses as well as individuals.

Rob Adelman, M.S.W. - Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Rob Adelman has over 25 years of experience working with individuals and organizations to optimize their performance through personal and professional development.  

 

He is a partner with Charlotte Psychotherapy and Consultation Group.  There, he has a clinical private practice where he works with older children, families, couples and adults to improve life management and coping skills around attention deficit, depression, anxiety, relationship and conduct issues.  

 

He helps teens and adults with their organizational skills and time management.  He is also a life coach, helping adults with career and life transition issues.

Rick Deitchman, Ph. D. - Licensed Psychologist

Rick Deitchman received his B.A. from Columbia University in 1971 and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Kentucky in 1980.  He has been working as a psychologist since 1976.

 

Coming to Charlotte in 1979 he was employed as an adult outpatient therapist by the Mecklenburg County Mental Health Center prior to becoming one of the founders of Charlotte Psychotherapy and Consultation Group in 1985.

 

Dr. Deitchman can assist with a number of problem areas, including depression, anxiety, work/life balance, and relationship issues.  Dr. Deitchman has a particular interest in working with individuals and families struggling with substance abuse and recovery.  He is a firm believer in the effectiveness of Twelve Step programs.

Jonathan Gould, Ph. D. ABPP - Licensed Psychologist

Jonathan W. Gould received his B.S. from Union College in 1975, a Master’s in School Psychology from SUNY, College at Plattsburgh, and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the State University of New York @ Albany in 1985.  He completed a year of supervised training in marriage, family, and sex therapy at the University of Pennsylvania’s Marriage Council of Philadelphia (Now called the Penn Center for Relationships).  He achieved board certification and Diplomate status from the American Board of Professional Psychology in Forensic Psychology in 2007.  Dr. Gould specializes in matters related to family law that include all aspects of child custody and parental fitness.  He also conducts evaluations in areas related to juvenile law as well as evaluations addressing personal injury, post traumatic stress, fitness for duty, and criminal forensic psychological assessments.

 

Dr. Gould’s practice takes him across the country, consulting with attorneys and testifying. He has conducted more than 350 court-appointed child custody evaluations, 1500 parental fitness evaluations, and 1000 psychological evaluations. He provides review/critique services to attorneys interested in assessing the quality of reports such as child custody assessments, parental fitness/competency assessments, psychological assessments, and related evaluations.

Melinda Harper, Ph. D. - Licensed Psychologist

Dr. Melinda Harper is a licensed psychologist with Charlotte Psychotherapy & Consultation Group in Charlotte, NC.  She provides psychological services, including individual and group psychotherapy to adolescents and adults.  She also offers comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations assessing a variety of issues, including educational assessment of intellectual abilities and diagnostic testing.  In addition to her clinical practice, she is currently employed and tenured as Professor of Psychology at Queens University of Charlotte.  Based on her teaching and research experience at Queens, she developed the Transition to University (T2U) program to facilitate first-year students’ transition from high school and adjustment to university life.  This program teaches both rising and current college freshmen a variety of skills necessary to facilitate their adjustment to university life.  

 

Dr. Harper graduated with distinction in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Upon graduation, she was accepted at the University of Tennessee to pursue her Ph.D. in clinical psychology.  During her doctoral training, she was involved in a number of clinical and research projects, including the Study of Tennessee Adolescent Romantic Relationships (STARR) project.  She completed her clinical internship at Yale University School of Medicine.  At Yale, she worked for the Adolescent Inpatient/Outpatient Program and for the Dual Diagnosis Partial Hospitalization Program, specializing in the treatment of substance addiction.  She also received a postdoctoral fellowship with Yale University Health Services providing individual, couples, and group therapy and assessment to the Yale University academic community.

Randy Wall, Ph. D. - Licensed Psychologist

Dr. Randy Wall has over 30 years of experience providing psychological services to children, adolescents and adult men. Services include individual, group and family therapy.

 

Born and raised in Port Washington (Long Island) New York, Dr. Wall graduated cum laude and with distinction in psychology from Duke University in 1975. He obtained his Ph.D. in School Psychology with an emphasis in clinical child psychology from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1982. Training included a clinical child psychology internship at Child and Family Services in Hartford, Connecticut 1979-80.

 

Dr. Wall came to Charlotte in 1982 where he worked with the Child-Adolescent Outpatient Unit at Mecklenburg Mental Health Center. He is one of the founding partners of Charlotte Psychotherapy and Consultation Group which formed in 1985.

 

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Wall has served as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Queens University of Charlotte where he taught Abnormal Psychology and The Psychology of Men.
